The fact that one is alive, is enough to prostrate and say thanks to God. One painful thing that everyone takes note is that death is inevitable. Many have failed to make it even if they had all it needs to be alive, from good health, wealthy, young to good education.

Being "Thankful to God" was this week's topic of discussion for Mzuzu University Muslim Students Association ( MUMSA).

The two-hour  MUMSA convocation that takes place every Sunday had a boiling topic that is usually taken for granted; the topic of "'Thankfulness to God''. This was enough to explain why a true Muslim performs obligatory prayers five times a day surmounted by other non obligatory fulfillments to inculcate in themselves  a spirit of a continued gratitude to God.

Setting the ball rolling, Ommar Hassan  starts his sermon with a  look from the noble Quran's Surat bakarah in one of the surahs where ''God'' says,  ''Remember me and I will remember you''

Brother Omar drives his argument towards the fact that this gathering is of university Muslim students who are in a country where competition for a place is unavoidable and that they fail to sit down and remember God for that and yet another submissive Muslim did not make into the university.

He attributed that to another set of test from God! Failure to have time to meditate and pray is a significant sign of ingratitude to God.

Commenting on the same,  Idrabama gave an example, of a roof maker who had invited a coworker to a given work field and when the roof maker unknowingly lost items from his loose pocket while on the rooftop, the assistant took advantage, he could not bother to look up to alert his boss about the loss up until the carpenter accidentally dropped a hammer that hit his head.

He eventually raised his eyes up, crying to his friend on the rooftop because of the pain inflicted on him.

''We also turn to God when we are faced with problems, a thing we should desist  Muslims." Idrabama added.

Wrapping up the topic of discussion, the Chairman of Mumsa,  Bunnet likens the world to a ''house full of tests''  and that only the strong in belief will make it.

"Allah (God) consistently tests us to see if we are strong in imaan'', Bunnet added.

The house finally reminded each other of the need to perform prayers each and every day in spite of the fact that they are faced with academic pressure.
