Opinion: The Advantages Of Agrarian Economies: Malawi Seasons Can Be Linked By Irrigation Farming.
By: Bright Malenga, Chief Editor.
Without Gold, Silver , Diamond and Uranium Agrarian Economies still stablelise their economy using crop produce.
That is why Agrarian Countries should prioritise crop diversification and Irrigation Farming as how the oil rich countries prioritise better oil prices per barrel.
Agrarian Countries are the ones that rely on agriculture to boost and sustain their economy and they are common in Africa, America and Asia.
What differs most is how the agricultural activities are done because developed economies use mechanised approach especially in America and Asia.
The approach is different in developing countries especially in Africa where old ways of farming are still prioritised due to low levels of mechanisation which is a result of fiscal inbalance.
Some countries in Africa such as Malawi the cases of crop diversification and mechanisation are still not prioritised due to financial instability and lack of committed experts to elaborate on the significance of crop diversification.
Malawi is an Agrarian Country and without crops such as Tobacco, Cotton and Sugarcane, it's economy would been registering worse strides.
Despite relying on Agriculture, Malawi is yet to make agricultural activitities perennial despite having various water bodies such as Lake Malawi and Shire River that are perennial water bodies as well.
In Malawi, cultivation of crops is mainly done during rainy season and then various productive lands are turned into commons.
Let's take examples of Lower Shire areas and all areas along Lake Malawi. Such areas can positively shape Malawi's economy by generating millions since irrigation systems are possible.
We don't care about how we can productively use such natural reservoirs yet we claim to be an Agrarian Economy.
A serious Agrarian Country can't only be relying on rainy season and think that crop produce can be real and sustainable gold.
A serious Agrarian Country thinks outside the box and values irrigation farming.
In this case, irrigation should not substitute normal crop cultivation season which is rainy seaon but it must come in as a rope of linking productive seasons which are rainy and dry seasons.
Diversifying crops also should be a priority since relying only on Tobbaco as our revenue is myopic reasoning.
