Opinion: Malawi's Shire -Zambezi Water Way Can be Economically Vital as Egypt's Suez Canal

Image
By: Bright Malenga, Chief Editor. Suez Canal. Landlocked Malawi still has a chance of boosting economy using water transport just as how Egypt made it using a man-made marvel, Suez Canal, connecting Mediterranean and Red sea. From zero, Egypt turned things around by becoming the centre of International  trade using the canal. The scenario can be the same in Malawi despite being a landlocked country. The Shire- Zambezi Water Way project which was pioneered by Late President Bingu Wa Mutharika  is a ladder that can make Malawi a centre of trade if all procedures can be followed to make it start functioning. I am not much interested in establishing what made the project to hit snag but what I need is to see all thorns sorrounding the project removed and let it start contributing to Malawi's economy. Suez Canal  has several ports such as Port Said which is the centre of International trade. Suez Canal it is one of most usable man made  canal just as Pan...

Opinion: The Advantages Of Agrarian Economies: Malawi Seasons Can Be Linked By Irrigation Farming.

Image
By: Bright Malenga, Chief Editor. Without Gold, Silver , Diamond and Uranium Agrarian Economies still stablelise their economy using crop produce. That is why Agrarian Countries should prioritise crop diversification and Irrigation Farming as how the oil rich countries prioritise better oil prices per barrel. Agrarian Countries are the ones that rely on agriculture to boost and sustain their economy and they are common in Africa, America and Asia. What differs most is how the agricultural activities are done because developed economies use mechanised approach especially in America and Asia. The approach is different in developing countries especially in Africa where old ways of farming are still prioritised due to low levels of mechanisation which is a result of fiscal inbalance. Some countries in Africa such as Malawi the cases of crop diversification and mechanisation are still not prioritised due to financial instability and lack of committed experts to elaborate on the ...

Be Thankful To God- MZUNI Muslim Students Told

Image
Students in a group photo By: Innocent Mpando The fact that one is alive, is enough to prostrate and say thanks to God. One painful thing that everyone takes note is that death is inevitable. Many have failed to make it even if they had all it needs to be alive, from good health, wealthy, young to good education. Being "Thankful to God" was this week's topic of discussion for Mzuzu University Muslim Students Association ( MUMSA). The two-hour  MUMSA convocation that takes place every Sunday had a boiling topic that is usually taken for granted; the topic of "'Thankfulness to God''. This was enough to explain why a true Muslim performs obligatory prayers five times a day surmounted by other non obligatory fulfillments to inculcate in themselves  a spirit of a continued gratitude to God. Setting the ball rolling, Ommar Hassan  starts his sermon with a  look from the noble Quran's Surat bakarah in one of the surahs where ''God...

Opinion: Motivation

Image
By: Bright Malenga Both Gross Domestic Product (GDP) and Gross National Product (GNP) show that Malawi is struggling social economically but some features in this "Warm Heart of Africa" are incomparable. That's motivation. Indeed, Malawi recently was ranked the third poorest country in the World by International Monetary Fund (IMF), but the capability of drawing the line between poverty and prosperity is possible based on features that she has. That's motivation. Presence of Mountains, National Parks and Minerals such as Uranium offer hope that one day the song of victory will be sung. That's motivation. Lake Malawi. Our Gold which is Tobacco is not selling as the hot cake as it was before but crop diversification that we have partly prioritised has some positive impacts on our national output. Our economy instead of being dwindling rampantly, it is theoretically rebounding. That's still motivation even though Malawians need it to be practical. ...
